Diabetes: Carbohydrate Budgets, Food by Food
Carbohydrate counting works on a budget per meal, and the budget is personal — set with a doctor or a diabetes educator, not with a website. What a page like this can usefully do is tell you what a real portion of a specific product actually costs against whatever budget you have been given.
The figures here are carbohydrate per labelled serving, with fibre shown separately, from the product's own record. Two things consistently surprise people: how far a labelled serving is from the amount they actually pour, and how much the form of a food matters — steel-cut oats and instant oats are the same grain and behave differently. Glycaemic index gets quoted constantly and is usually the wrong tool, because it describes a fixed 50 g of carbohydrate rather than the portion in front of you.
